This evening, we enjoy a welcome drink and dinner at the hotel. During the welcome drink, we are treated to a special surprise performance — The Norway Show. This entertaining 20-minute performance by a local artist offers a light-hearted and engaging introduction to Norwegian history and culture. Presented as a comic lecture inspired by true stories (with a little creative licence), it is an enjoyable and memorable way to begin our journey.

Day 2 – Discover Oslo (B, L, D)

Oslo is a small, well-organised capital — but what happens when there is plenty of snow? Today, we find out.

This morning, we are picked up directly from our hotel by a small bus and joined by our most experienced local guide for an in-depth exploration of Oslo. We begin with a guided walk through Gammel Oslo, the historic part of the city, before continuing to Frogner Park, also known as Vigelandsparken. Here we explore the remarkable collection of sculptures by Gustav Vigeland, one of Norway’s most celebrated artists. The total guided experience lasts approximately 2.5 hours.

The afternoon is free to explore Oslo at your own pace. You may choose to visit the impressive new Munch Museum, or take a short ferry ride to Bygdøy to explore the Fram Museum, dedicated to Norway’s polar exploration history. Other options include wandering through Frogner, home to Oslo’s elegant residential streets; Grønland, the city’s multicultural heart filled with global flavours and aromas; or Grunerløkka, Oslo’s trendy and creative district. A stroll along the Akerselva River is another lovely way to experience the city.

This evening, we dine at a restaurant within walking distance of the hotel, enjoying modern Norwegian cuisine inspired by international flavours and created using first-class local produce.

After crossing the mountains we will skip to the Flåmsbanen train a steep mountain train taking you from high up in the mountains down to the fjord at sea level. From here we continue on an electric sightseeing vessel to enjoy in silence the UNESCO-heritage listed Nærøyfjord.

After arriving in Gudvangen we get on the bus to continue the journey to Voss, from where we enjoy the last part of the trip by train. Upon arrival in the evening. We walk in the direction of our hotel. We enjoy a Bergen traditional street food snack at Trekroneren before checking in at our boutique hotel Charmante Skostredet hotel. We start the day with a 2-hour guided walk from the hotel. We visit the UNESCO heritage-listed Bergen Brygge, the old village with wooden trading houses. And continue to the Bergen fort. After this walk, we pass by the Juhls Silver gallery. In this gallery, they sell the jewellery they make in their studio in Kautokeino in the North, which we will visit later on this tour. An amazing place with a great story behind it.

We take the Fløibanen funicular up the mountain for a great overview over the city and the fjord, and (if the weather permits) we can walk down into the city with a great view all the way. After we enjoy lunch in the Frescohallen, a historic place in the middle of Bergen.

Tonight’s dinner will be at the Michelin star restaurant Lysverket. Redefining Nordic cuisine is what The New York Times wrote about this restaurant. Neo Fjordic cuisine is what they call their food.

With a strong emphasis on local seafood, and sustainably grown ingredients. We will enjoy a 10 course Tasting menu.

Day 5 – Heading North (B, D)

From Bergen airport via a short stop in Oslo, we arrive at Evenes/Harstad airport. From the airport, a private shuttle takes us to the Lofoten islands. A very scenic drive with the white jagged peaks rising up from the sea, a view locally known as “the Lofoten wall”. We drive to Svolvaer with a detour visiting a Salmon farm in Blokken, specially equipped for visitors, it gives a good insight in the second biggest export business of Norway, Norwegian Salmon.

Upon arrival in Svolvær, check in Svinøya Rorbuer. Being in the Lofoten, this is the local way to stay, Rorbu is the historic fishermen’s houses. Remember that in the past 1000 years this place has been responsible for the main export product (dried cod fish) of Norway until the oil was discovered only 5 decades ago. Every spring, many thousands of fishermen from all along the Norwegian coast (some 1000 miles away) came here to fish in the early spring. It is big still today. We will be witnessing this fishing bonanza. We are now above the Arctic Circle and chances to see the Northern lights are there all the time, look up when it is dark and if the sky is free, the magic might have started. Dinner at the hotel’s restaurant Børsen.Spiseri. Stay in Svinøya Rorbuer.

Overnight: Svinøya Rorbuer
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6 – Discover the Lofoten island and a Viking longhouse

After breakfast, we set out on a wonderful journey through the breathtaking landscapes of the Lofoten Islands, discovering the region’s fascinating Viking heritage, picturesque fishing villages and extraordinary Arctic scenery.

Travelling aboard our private vehicle, we make our way south through some of Norway’s most spectacular landscapes, where dramatic snow-covered mountains rise above sheltered fjords and traditional fishing villages dot the rugged coastline.

Our first stop is the fascinating Lofotr Viking Museum, home to a remarkable reconstruction of the world’s largest known Viking longhouse, built on the very site where the original remains were discovered. Here, we step back in time to discover the lives, traditions and remarkable history of the Vikings who once inhabited these remote northern islands.

Continuing south, we stop at the beautiful Ramberg Beach, a stunning stretch of white sand framed by towering mountains and crystal-clear turquoise waters. In winter, the contrast between the brilliant blue sea, pristine white sand and surrounding snow-covered landscape creates a truly extraordinary sight.

We then continue towards Reine, widely regarded as one of Norway’s most picturesque fishing villages. Nestled beneath dramatic mountain peaks and surrounded by magnificent fjords, this charming village is famous for its traditional red fishermen’s cabins and breathtaking coastal scenery.

Here, we enjoy lunch and some time to wander, take photographs and appreciate the remarkable beauty of this unforgettable Arctic setting.

Our journey continues to Nusfjord, one of Norway’s oldest and best-preserved traditional fishing villages. With its historic wooden buildings, colourful fishermen’s cabins and picturesque harbour, Nusfjord feels like stepping into another era. We explore this charming village, discovering its rich maritime heritage and the traditional way of life that has shaped the Lofoten Islands for generations.

Although today involves a longer scenic drive, the constantly changing landscapes offer an endless succession of spectacular views, from dramatic mountain passes and frozen valleys to peaceful fishing harbours and beautiful coastal panoramas.

As evening approaches, we make our way to the fishing village of Ballstad, where we enjoy a special dinner at Lofoten Food Studio. Here, we experience exceptional Nordic cuisine, with beautifully prepared dishes inspired by the region’s fresh seasonal ingredients and rich culinary traditions.

Following dinner, we return to our accommodation, keeping an eye on the Arctic skies for the possibility of witnessing the magical Northern Lights.

Overnight: Svinøya Rorbuer
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 7 – Discover Henningsvær & Embark on Our Arctic Coastal Cruise

After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely morning in the beautiful Lofoten Islands, with time to explore the charming surroundings of Svolvær at your own pace.

Perhaps take a peaceful stroll along the waterfront at Svinøya, where traditional red fishermen’s cabins and wooden fish-drying racks provide a fascinating glimpse into the region’s centuries-old fishing heritage. Alternatively, browse the local boutiques, enjoy a coffee overlooking the harbour or simply relax and soak up the magnificent Arctic scenery.

For those seeking an additional adventure, there is the opportunity to join an optional three-hour Trollfjord and Sea Eagle Cruise, exploring one of the Lofoten Islands’ most spectacular natural wonders.

This unforgettable excursion takes you through dramatic Arctic fjords towards the magnificent Trollfjord, a narrow and breathtaking waterway surrounded by towering mountains and steep cliffs. Along the way, keep an eye out for majestic white-tailed sea eagles soaring above the rugged coastline. The fjord is also steeped in fascinating maritime history, including the famous conflict between local fishermen in the late 19th century.

Following our morning activities, we travel by private vehicle to the picturesque fishing village of Henningsvær, often referred to as the Venice of Lofoten. Situated across a collection of small islands connected by bridges, this enchanting village is renowned for its colourful wooden houses, bustling fishing harbour and spectacular mountain backdrop.

We begin our visit with lunch before setting out to explore the village and discover its fascinating fishing traditions.

Our visit coincides with the height of the traditional Arctic cod fishing season, when Henningsvær comes alive with fishing boats returning to harbour and freshly caught cod being prepared for drying. Throughout the Lofoten Islands, enormous wooden racks display rows of codfish suspended in the crisp winter air, a centuries-old preservation method used to produce Norway’s famous stockfish.

During our guided exploration, we hope to gain a closer insight into this important local industry with a visit to a traditional fishing or fish-processing operation, subject to availability.

There will also be time to wander through Henningsvær’s charming streets, browse its small independent shops and galleries, and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of this authentic Arctic fishing village.

Later in the afternoon, we return to Svolvær, where we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant within walking distance of our accommodation.

This evening, another wonderful chapter of our Norwegian adventure begins as we board our Hurtigruten coastal cruise.

After dinner, we make our way to the harbour to meet our ship and settle into our cabins, ready to experience one of Norway’s most iconic coastal journeys.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Coastal Cruise – Overnight Onboard

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 8 – Cruising the Arctic Coast & Discovering Tromsø

After a leisurely breakfast onboard MS Polarlys, we continue our magnificent journey north along Norway’s spectacular Arctic coastline, following one of the world’s most celebrated coastal routes.

Today is an opportunity to slow down and embrace the beauty of travelling by sea, as we cruise past dramatic snow-covered mountains, remote fishing villages, sheltered fjords and picturesque harbours scattered along the rugged Norwegian coast.

Our Hurtigruten voyage follows the historic Norwegian Coastal Express route, which has connected communities along Norway’s coastline for more than a century. Originally established to transport mail, passengers and essential supplies between remote coastal settlements, this remarkable maritime route remains an important part of Norwegian life today.

As we sail through these breathtaking northern landscapes, enjoy the comfort of our ship, relax in the panoramic lounges or step outside onto the deck to take in the crisp Arctic air and magnificent scenery.

During the day, we arrive in Tromsø, affectionately known as the Gateway to the Arctic and one of northern Norway’s most fascinating cities.

Surrounded by dramatic mountains and beautiful fjords, Tromsø has a rich history of Arctic exploration, polar expeditions and traditional northern Norwegian culture.

With approximately four hours in port, we disembark for a guided walking tour through the city’s charming centre, discovering its colourful wooden buildings, historic streets and lively waterfront.

One of the highlights of our visit is the fascinating Polar Museum, where we learn about Norway’s remarkable history of Arctic exploration, polar expeditions and the courageous explorers who ventured into some of the world’s most remote and challenging environments.

The museum offers an intriguing insight into life in the Arctic, from traditional hunting and seafaring to the extraordinary journeys undertaken by legendary Norwegian polar explorers.

Following our guided sightseeing, enjoy some free time to explore Tromsø at your own pace. Perhaps browse the local boutiques, stop for a coffee in one of the city’s inviting cafés or simply soak up the atmosphere of this vibrant Arctic destination.

We then return to MS Polarlys, where our voyage continues north towards Honningsvåg and the spectacular North Cape region.

As evening falls, enjoy dinner onboard while admiring the ever-changing coastal scenery. Later, keep an eye on the northern skies, as our journey through the Arctic offers another wonderful opportunity to witness the magical Northern Lights, should conditions allow.

Tonight, we settle into our comfortable sea-view cabins for another peaceful night cruising along Norway’s magnificent northern coastline.

Overnight: Hurtigruten MS Polarlys – Sea-View Cabin with Two Separate Beds
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9 – Journey to the North Cape & the Arctic Wilderness of Alta

After breakfast onboard our Hurtigruten coastal cruise, we enjoy the final morning of our spectacular voyage through Norway’s breathtaking Arctic landscapes.

At approximately 10:55 am, we arrive in the northern fishing town of Honningsvåg, where we farewell MS Polarlys and board our private vehicle for an unforgettable journey to one of Europe’s most iconic landmarks, the magnificent North Cape.

Travelling across the dramatic landscapes of Magerøya Island, we make our way towards North Cape (Nordkapp), a spectacular cliff rising approximately 307 metres above the Arctic Ocean.

Often described as the northernmost point of Europe accessible by road, North Cape is one of Norway’s most extraordinary destinations, offering a remarkable sense of standing at the very edge of the continent.

Here, we visit the famous North Cape Globe Monument, perched dramatically above the vast Arctic Ocean. Surrounded by sweeping snow-covered landscapes and endless northern horizons, this iconic landmark provides a truly memorable opportunity to appreciate the raw beauty and remoteness of the Arctic.

Weather permitting, there will be time to take photographs and enjoy the magnificent views before we continue our journey south.

Leaving North Cape behind, we travel through the spectacular Arctic wilderness towards Alta, passing dramatic mountain landscapes, frozen valleys and remote coastal settlements along the way.

During our journey, we stop for a simple lunch and a fascinating introduction to the traditions and heritage of the Sea Sámi people, the Indigenous inhabitants of Norway’s northern coastal regions.

Unlike the more widely recognised reindeer-herding Sámi communities, the Sea Sámi traditionally relied on fishing, coastal resources and small-scale farming for their livelihoods.

Our visit to a small local museum provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about their distinctive culture, history and enduring connection to the sea and surrounding Arctic landscapes.

Following our visit, we continue towards Alta, enjoying the magnificent scenery as we travel deeper into Norway’s beautiful northern wilderness.

This afternoon, we arrive at the extraordinary Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge, our luxurious home for the next three nights.

Nestled beside the Alta River and surrounded by pristine Arctic forest, this beautiful lodge offers a peaceful and intimate retreat in the heart of northern Norway. Its elegant Scandinavian design, warm interiors and magnificent natural setting create the perfect place to relax and embrace the magic of the Arctic.

After settling into our rooms, we gather for a delicious dinner at the lodge, where regional ingredients and contemporary Nordic cuisine reflect the flavours and traditions of northern Norway.

As darkness falls, keep an eye on the skies for the possibility of witnessing the spectacular Northern Lights. With its beautiful wilderness location away from the bright lights of the city, Sorrisniva provides a wonderful setting to experience this extraordinary natural phenomenon, should conditions be favourable.

Overnight: Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge, Alta
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 10 – Snowshoeing Through the Arctic Wilderness of Alta
After breakfast at our beautiful Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge, we set out for a wonderful morning exploring the pristine snow-covered landscapes of northern Norway.

Today, we experience the peaceful beauty of the Arctic wilderness on a guided snowshoeing adventure, discovering the magnificent natural surroundings of Sorrisniva in a truly memorable way.

Equipped with snowshoes and walking poles, we follow our experienced local guide along scenic winter trails, making our way through tranquil forests and across beautiful snow-covered terrain. Surrounded by towering mountains, frosted trees and the stillness of the Arctic landscape, this is a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and appreciate the extraordinary beauty of Norway’s far north.

Our approximately two-hour experience takes us towards a traditional wooden shelter, beautifully positioned partway up a mountain ridge overlooking the spectacular Alta Valley.

From this elevated vantage point, we are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views across the surrounding mountains, snow-covered forests and the frozen Alta River winding through the valley below.

Here, we pause beside a crackling campfire to warm ourselves and enjoy a comforting hot drink and a traditional local refreshment while taking in the magnificent scenery.

Throughout our walk, our knowledgeable guide shares fascinating insights into the region’s natural environment, wildlife, local history and the traditions of life in the Arctic.

With plenty of opportunities to stop, admire the scenery and capture photographs, our snowshoeing experience offers a beautiful balance of gentle adventure, relaxation and discovery.

Following our Arctic excursion, we return to Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge, where the remainder of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure.

Perhaps relax in the warmth of the lodge, admire the beautiful winter landscape through the panoramic windows or simply unwind in the peaceful surroundings of this extraordinary wilderness retreat.

This evening, we gather for another delicious dinner at the lodge, enjoying beautifully prepared Nordic cuisine inspired by the flavours and ingredients of northern Norway.

As night falls, we once again have the opportunity to watch the Arctic skies for the magical Northern Lights, a truly unforgettable sight should nature put on a display.

Day 11 – Arctic Traditions: Reindeer Encounters & Sámi Culture

After breakfast at Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge, we set out for an unforgettable day of Arctic adventure and authentic Norwegian experiences.

Our morning begins with a visit to Trasti & Trine, a family-run wilderness retreat renowned for its dog sledding experiences and exceptional local cuisine. Here, we meet Trine, a former champion dog musher, and her daughter Hanna, who care for approximately 60 enthusiastic huskies.

With guidance from our experienced hosts, we help harness our own team of dogs before setting off on an exciting husky sledding adventure along the beautiful Alta River. Travelling through snow-covered forests and alongside frozen riverbanks, we experience the magic of exploring the Arctic wilderness by traditional dog sled.

Following our adventure, we enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by Trasti, a renowned local chef celebrated for his use of fresh, regional ingredients.

We then gather around a welcoming campfire inside a traditional Sámi-style gamme, where Trine shares fascinating stories of her experiences and adventures as a competitive dog musher.

Later this afternoon, we return to Sorrisniva before visiting the extraordinary Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, a spectacular creation rebuilt entirely from snow and ice each winter.

During our guided tour, we admire the intricate ice sculptures, beautifully designed rooms and remarkable craftsmanship while learning about the fascinating process of constructing this unique Arctic hotel.

This evening, we enjoy a wonderful dinner at Sorrisniva’s restaurant, overlooking the beautiful Alta River and surrounding winter landscape.

After dinner, we settle into our luxurious lodge, with another opportunity to watch the northern skies for the magical Aurora Borealis, should conditions allow.

Overnight: Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge, Alta

Day 12 – Discovering Sámi Culture & the Finnmark Wilderness

After breakfast at Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge, we journey across the spectacular snow-covered landscapes of the Finnmark Plateau, a vast Arctic wilderness rich in Indigenous Sámi culture and traditions.

Today, we enjoy a very special opportunity to experience authentic Sámi life with a visit to Nils Peder Gaup and his family in Kautokeino, a region renowned for its traditional reindeer-herding communities.

Rather than a typical tourist experience, we are welcomed into the world of a modern Sámi family, discovering how centuries-old traditions continue alongside contemporary life.

We learn about the fascinating practice of reindeer herding, including the seasonal migrations that take herds across vast stretches of Arctic wilderness and towards the coastal islands during summer.

There will also be an opportunity to meet the family’s beautiful reindeer up close, a truly memorable experience in this extraordinary northern setting.

Following our visit, we continue to the renowned Juhls Silver Gallery, a unique jewellery workshop celebrated for its exquisite handcrafted silver pieces inspired by Sámi culture, Arctic nature and traditional craftsmanship.

During our guided tour, we discover the artistry behind these beautiful creations before enjoying a relaxing drink and light refreshment in the gallery café.

We then journey back across the magnificent Finnmark tundra towards Alta, taking in the breathtaking winter landscapes along the way.

This evening, we gather for a special Arctic farewell dinner at Trasti & Trine, where our talented hosts prepare a wonderful dining experience showcasing the flavours and seasonal ingredients of northern Norway.

It is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our incredible journey together, reflecting on the unforgettable experiences, spectacular landscapes and wonderful memories we have shared throughout our Arctic adventure.
